Announcing Isaac
Lindsay and Michael Trance of Edgartown announce the birth of a son, Isaac William Trance, born on Sept. 12, 2009, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Isaac weighed 8.18 pounds at birth. Isaac was welcomed home by his big brother, Ian Trance.
Kattrina (Tina) Sangillo of Windham, Me., held hard onto the fishing rod and cranked slowly with her right hand. She was reeling in the biggest fish she’d ever caught in her life. The striped bass pulled and tugged at the line, flashing silver in the water.
Citing continued concerns about the need to clean up Menemsha Pond from a failed oyster propagation project of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), the Aquinnah selectmen this week directed town coordinator Jeffrey Burgoyne to set up a meeting with tribe leaders to discuss the problem.

The proposed Nantucket-Edgartown tidal energy project will receive nearly $600,000 from the federal Department of Energy, Rep. William Delahunt announced last week.
The funding is for an environmental study, coordinated by the University of Massachusetts Marine Renewable Energy Center. The study will be an important step toward initiating permitting for a 1.5 MW Tidal Energy Project in Muskeget Channel east of Martha’s Vineyard, according to the media release from Mr. Delahunt, an opponent of the Cape Wind plan.
Golf Scramble
The 21st annual Howard W. Leonard golf scramble to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martha’s Vineyard took place on Sunday, Sept. 20. The Martha’s Savings Bank and Mink Meadows Golf Club sponsored the event. Beautiful weather contributed to the fantastic spirit of the day as 36 golfers took to the Mink Meadows course following coffee and breakfast foods provided by the Black Dog Cafe.
