A group of neighbors are unhappy about noise, added traffic and overflow parking problems at the popular State Road restaurant in North Tisbury.
In a letter sent to the West Tisbury selectmen, zoning board of appeals and town building inspector last week, six State Road abutters outlined a long list of complaints about the restaurant, which opened a year and a half ago.
The letter, which was read into the record of the weekly selectmen’s meeting on Wednesday afternoon, also accuses the restaurant of unauthorized parking use on neighboring property.
The emergency response to Hurricane Earl was praised and questioned by the Chilmark selectmen this week. At the selectman’s meeting Tuesday, town emergency management director Bill Smith reported that things had gone smoothly up-Island, and police Chief Brian Cioffi concurred, saying there had not been the same confusion about road closures as there had been down-Island.
Youth Talks
The Martha’s Vineyard Youth Leadership Initiative will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Artcliff Diner in Vineyard Haven. Vineyarders aged 15 to 22 are invited to attend.
Yoga Workshop
Say goodbye to the hectic summer and ease into the golden rays of fall with a three-day yoga workshop at the Beach Plum Inn in Chilmark. Beginning Sept. 13 and running through Sept. 15, classes will be held throughout each day and offer something for every skill level. Refreshments are provided for those who sign up for the full-day sessions.

Coast Guard senior officers told the Chilmark selectmen this week it will be at least two years until the government agency can begin rebuilding the historic Menemsha boathouse that was destroyed in the July 12 fire.
All physical evidence has been collected for the investigation, and demolition of the charred boathouse is set to begin Sept. 15, Capt. Verne Gifford (commander for Southern New England), Cmdr. Will Smith and Menemsha station chief Jason Olsen told the selectmen on Tuesday. Also attending the meeting were special agents Robert Ditolla and Joe Green.
In the span of 15 minutes, Mark McCarthy has coordinated school busses, fielded requests for the simple (a screwdriver) and the complex (more busses) and embarked on a search for a package of socks for the soccer teams that was supposed to arrive earlier in the morning. The socks are somewhere in Vineyard Haven — but they need to be at the high school before noon.
