Inkwell Beach in Oak Bluffs was closed to swimming Wednesday after water tests showed unacceptable levels of bacteria. Signs were posted to warn bathers of the bacteria.
David Caron, chairman of the Oak Bluffs board of health, reported that water samples taken Monday had come back with an enterococci count of 159 parts per milliliter; the maximum acceptable is 100.

David Hale Brodnick of Chilmark and Pound Ridge, N.Y., grandson of Betty Kogen and nephew of Michael Kogen of Chilmark, graduated with honors from Cornell University with a double-major in Near Eastern studies and history.

Tomorrow marks a new start for an Island institution. The Oak Bluffs Fire Museum opens its doors for the first time to the public at 1 p.m. The station at the intersection of Wing and County Roads, in front of the Nelson Amaral town fire station, came together over the last three years.

Cape Wind has won another round in the battle over construction of a wind farm in Nantucket Sound, in a 4-2 split decision in the state’s highest court.
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court this week rejected a challenge to the so-called super-permit given to the wind farm developers by the Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) in May 2009, covering nine state and local permits related to the connection of the wind farm to the electric grid.
