Skylar Menton and Garry Metters of Vineyard Haven announce the birth of a daughter, Adelaide Hartley Metters, on Sept. 17 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Adelaide weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces at birth. She joins big brothers Shane, Devon and Oliver.

Business Awards

The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce will hold its second annual “Martha’s” business awards on Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lambert’s Cove Inn in West Tisbury.

Nonmembers are welcome to attend and learn about the benefits of chamber membership. There will be fabulous refreshments and exciting door prizes. Winners will be announced and presented to the honorees.

A Vineyard Haven man was seriously injured when he struck a fellow motorcyclist near the Airport Mobil Station Monday night and was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment.

Edgartown police said according to one witness at the scene, Peter Valach, 24, was traveling at 120 miles per hour when he hit Ryan Willoughby, 20, also from Vineyard Haven. Mr. Valach was ejected from his motorcycle and found 575 feet away from the impact site; his motorcycle hit a tree and split it in two.
