With the school year drawing to a close, the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School district committee began a review of the annual school improvement plan and prepared for a year-end financial review.

Principal Steven Nixon presented the committee with a school plan that aims to quantify success through a data-driven point system and restates the school’s core values, beliefs and learning expectations.

A 32-year-old Holyoke man was charged with drunk driving and other motor vehicle violations after the Ford F-350 pickup truck he was driving flipped over on Seaview avenue in Oak Bluffs on Saturday night, sending six people to the hospital.

It was practically a feeding frenzy at the regional high school this weekend when the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks defeated the Seacoast Mavericks in their season opener on Friday and again in a rain-soaked game on Saturday. On Saturday, June 18 from noon to 5 p.m., the 20th annual Oak Bluffs Harborfest motors into town. Each year seems to surpass the previous one in terms of attendance and vendors participating. This year, in fact, faeries have gotten wind of the party and are expected to attend. More on that later.

Dean’s List

Daniel K. Kaeka 5th, of West Tisbury, has been named to the dean’s list at Western New England for the spring semester of 2011. Mr. Kaeka is a junior majoring in pre-pharmacy.
