The Space, located at the Triangle in Edgartown, will close at the end of the month unless an alternative space can be found, its founders announced “with regret” in a media release yesterday.

Opened in November of last year, the Space provided a home for IMP, Fit with Katryn, Zumba, MV Glee, Yoga with Emily Phillips, Ballroom Dance MV, and MV Capoeira. In addition, various dance, yoga and pilates classes took up residence at the Space over the winter.

Keating Office Hours

Rep. Bill Keating’s staff will be holding mobile office hours on the Vineyard on Monday, June 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Shepherd Fine Artspace, 8 Uncas avenue in Oak Bluffs.

This is to serve any Island residents who can’t visit the congressman’s office because of time or location restrictions.

As 42 people departed on foot from Sepiessa Point Reservation in West Tisbury at 9 a.m. sharp on Saturday morning, the air was a cool 50 degrees and the sky was clear blue. We were heading ultimately to Wilfred’s Pond Preserve in Vineyard Haven. The 15-mile walk would cross Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank properties, ancient ways and public roads that are hidden in the back woods of the Island.

Aquinnah Cultural Center

The Aquinnah Cultural Center opens its doors for the season on Saturday, June 11 at 1 p.m. This year, its sixth, the museum is extending its hours and will now close at 4 p.m. The museum exhibits center around traditional and 19th century Wampanoag culture and history.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Farmers’ Market Begins

The outskirts of the Grange Hall in West Tisbury will once again be the place to be beginning this Saturday, June 11. That’s when the farmers’ market gets under way.

The market is open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Wednesdays through October 8. It’s a one-stop shopping event assured to fill your belly and grocery bag. Just-picked local produce, bread, jams, flowers, prepared foods and, of course, the egg roll lady.

Bluefin tuna — the center of a highly lucrative commercial fishery and heated controversy about overfishing — will not be listed as an endangered species, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced last week.

“NOAA is formally designating both the western Atlantic and eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean stocks of bluefin tuna as species of concern under the Endangered Species Act,” a press release that accompanied the decision said.
