A man once said to his daughter while driving to a long-promised Island outing, “We can’t go to Felix Neck, it’s raining.” To which the girl replied, “Well, it’s not raining on my side of the car.” To which the father replied, “Of course it is.”

Years later that girl still maintains that it was not raining on her side of the car.

She recently wrote a book about it.

West Tisbury selectmen have voted to refer the proposed roundabout at the Oak Bluffs four-way blinker intersection to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission for review as a development of regional impact (DRI).

On Wednesday West Tisbury selectman Richard Knabel argued that the $1.1 million state project tripped article 3.701 of the commission’s so-called DRI checklist, which provides for any construction or expansion of facilities that “exist as part of an internal regional transportation system for the Island.”

An Aquinnah man appeared in Edgartown district court Wednesday morning following a stabbing in Vineyard Haven late Tuesday.

The stabbing victim was airlifted to Boston Tuesday night and remained unconscious and in a serious condition at last report, at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Tisbury police chief Daniel Hanavan.

Chief Hanavan said police were called to a house on Spring street at 5:56 p.m. where they found the victim. His alleged assailant had left the scene, but turned himself in about an hour later.

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School has joined Michelle Obama’s Chefs Move to Schools program, run through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Island caterers Jan Buhrman and Jamie Hamlin have partnered with the school lunch chef Leslie Floyd to create healthy, delicious meals that meet the school’s dietary guidelines and budgets. They will join an effort with school nurse Linda Leonard, who is working with staff to teach young people about nutrition and making balanced and healthy choices.

Edgartown Marine will shortly have new owners.

George and Sheryl Roth Rogers of Lexington and Vineyard Haven will take over the town-owned boat yard in the next few days, pending bank approval from the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank. The boat yard is at the end of Morse street on the Edgartown harbor.

Maurice Dore and Anthony (Tony) Chianase are selling the business, the price of which has not been disclosed. The Edgartown selectmen approved a long-term lease transfer for the new owners at a special selectmen’s meeting Friday afternoon.

Youth Summit has Space

The 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development begins June 18 at the Captain Flanders Inn in Chilmark.

It continues through June 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for Vineyard youth to attend and rides are provided each day from all local schools; there are a few more spaces available for Vineyard youth ages 15 to 20 to attend. The summit is a program of the Martha’s Vineyard Youth Leadership Initiative.
