Patricia and Edson Da Silva of West Tisbury announce the birth of a daughter, Nathalya Noronha Da Silva, born on August 28, 2009, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Nathalya weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces at birth.

Announcing Elizabeth

Alison and Joe Thompson of West Tisbury announce the birth of a daughter, Elizabeth Reilly Thompson, born on August 28, 2009, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Elizabeth weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces at birth.

The Martha’s Vineyard Boys’ and Girls’ Club After School Program opens for the new school year on Monday, Sept. 14.

The program is open to all children in grades kindergarten through grade six, and runs Monday to Friday, 2:40 to 6 p.m. (noon to 6 p.m. on half-days of school).

The program gives children a variety of daily activities to chose from in art, education, computers, athletics and social recreation.

Admission to the program is $20 per child for the school year.

The Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council is calling for funding proposals from individuals, organizations and schools. Council grants exist to support projects that promote or enhance excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities and interpretative sciences for the purpose of improving the quality of life for all of the Island’s residents. This year’s grant applications are due Oct. 15.

Accessible Kayaking

Vineyard Complementary Medicine’s physical therapy staff is joining Island Spirit Kayaks to offer individuals with physical challenges an opportunity to kayak in a safe accessible environment on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Little Bridge, State Beach, Oak Bluffs.
