Madison Ibsen and Thomas Christopher, of Oak Bluffs, announce the birth of a daughter, Meadow Kay Christopher, born on July 27.

 

 

 

Announcing Isaac

Lindsay and Michael Trance of Edgartown announce the birth of a son, Isaac William Trance, born on Sept. 12, 2009, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Isaac weighed 8.18 pounds at birth. Isaac was welcomed home by his big brother, Ian Trance.

For anyone who is 55 years of age or older, on limited income, and wanting to get back to work, the Mature Workers Program of Elder Services and the Islands, Inc. offers a Bridge Back to Work Program. The program aims to provide paid work experience and skills training opportunities in or near your community.

Master’s Degree

Emily J. Wash of West Tisbury was among 436 students at Arcadia University’s graduate commencement ceremony on May 14. Ms. Wash was awarded a master of arts in education with distinction.

Search for Local Heroes

The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter, is once again looking for nominations for local heroes. These heroes will be recognized at the upcoming eighth annual heroes breakfast on March 4, 2010, in Hyannis.

Heroes must live on Cape Cod, Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard and the heroic act must have been performed between Dec. 26, 2008 and Dec. 21, 2009. The nominating committee will select heroes in an array of award categories, including firefighter, good samaritans, and mentors and diversity.

To everyone who has asked about Susie — our mascot for the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard — she had some surgery this week and is recovering well. She still needs more tests so any donations for her medical expenses are gratefully accepted.

Well Done, Dr. Atwood

Dr. Steven W. Atwood of West Tisbury has been elected to the Falmouth Academy board of trustees.

A deliberately small, academically rigorous, independent day school, Falmouth Academy serves students in grades 7 to 12 from Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod as well as the South Shore.

Dr. Atwood is hospital director/owner of Animal Health Care Associates, a general veterinary practice on the Vineyard.
