Oak Bluffs police and emergency management personnel were dispatched to a possible boater in distress near the Little Bridge Monday afternoon, but instead found a man scalloping in a small, unregistered wooden skiff.
Instead of being rescued he was issued a ticket for operating an unregistered motor vessel.
Police were first alerted to a possible boater in trouble in Nantucket Sound off the breakwater around 3 p.m. Oak Bluffs Lieut. Timothy Williamson, officers David Berube and Jeffrey LaBell, and emergency management coordinator Peter Martell responded.
An Edgartown man was arrested at gunpoint last Thursday afternoon after he tried to pull a handgun from his backpack at a construction site on Fisher Road. Emery E. Johnson, 38, of 40 Pine street, was apprehended by police following a brief chase through a wooded area and charged with possession of a firearm without a license.
He is currently being held on $5,000 bail at the Dukes County Jail.
Oak Bluffs police arrested an Island man on Wednesday assault and kidnapping charges after he reportedly held his girlfriend against her will and strangled her until she lost consciousness. James W. Campbell, 36, was charged with assault and battery, kidnapping, larceny and attempted murder.

The Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force and Oak Bluffs police arrested five people last week on a series of drug charges, including heroin and cocaine trafficking.
On Tuesday the task force executed a search warrant at a house on Lyme street in Oak Bluffs following a nearly four-month investigation. Oak Bluffs, Tisbury, Massachusetts state police and members of the drug task force assisted with the investigation and arrests.
Locked in the Trunk
A former Aquinnah man was arrested in Fall River last Tuesday for allegedly locking his two young sons in the trunk of his car while he went inside a local store. Michael B. Monahan, 35, was arraigned in Fall River Court on Wednesday on charges of domestic assault and wanton reckless endangerment of a child.
An Island man was attacked by two assailants and stabbed in the neck with a putty knife on Main street,Vineyard Haven late Sunday evening.
Tisbury police have arrested two men in connection with the attack.
Roy J. Cavanaugh Jr., 47, was arrested early Monday morning and Richard Abrazinski of Edgartown, also 47, was arrested Wednesday morning.
Both have been charged with assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and mayhem.
