Like most residents and visitors, he enjoys a change of pace when he comes to the Vineyard.

But in nearly every other way, the Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty 2nd is unlike most residents and visitors. An associate justice of the superior court, Judge Moriarty divides his time between Springfield and the Vineyard, sitting in both superior courts.

And when he is not presiding over a civil and criminal trial here, he might just as easily be found in his garden or at the beach with a saltwater fishing rod in his hand.

The spring sitting of Dukes County superior court wrapped up this week, with a jury convicting a Jamaica Plain man of drug trafficking. Several trials scheduled for the October superior court session.

Steven A. Schwab, a prominent Island insurance executive and well-known Chilmark resident, was arrested and charged last week with child molestation stemming from incidents in West Tisbury and Chilmark in which he allegedly exposed himself to a child.

Bomb-making materials were discovered this week in a storage facility near the airport, according to Edgartown police.

The department is seeking an arrest warrant for Jobian Kerr, 31, on charges of possessing explosive substances or materials, Det. Sgt. Christopher Dolby said in a press release.

According to the police, officers seized “a number” of hazardous bomb-making materials from two storage units at Airport Ministorage of Martha’s Vineyard while executing search warrants.

A statewide sweep by criminal investigators of child pornography suspects this month has resulted in the arrest of more than 30 people across the commonwealth, including an Oak Bluffs man. The sweep was led by Massachusetts state police and the state Attorney General.

Josemar Boldrini, 43, of Oak Bluffs, was arraigned in Edgartown district court on Thursday, April 5, on charges of possessing and disseminating child pornography. The following day the Hon. H. Gregory Williams set bail at $200,000 cash.
