Edgartown attorney Edward W. (Peter) Vincent Jr. is expected to be temporarily suspended from practicing law, after he agreed to a petition filed by the Office of the Bar Counsel in Supreme Judicial Court arguing that “[Mr. Vincent’s] continued practice of law would pose a threat of substantial harm to clients or prospective clients.”
According to Constance Vecchione, chief bar counsel to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers, “You get a temporary suspension when there are facts showing a lawyer poses a threat of substantial harm.”
Chilmark police are investigating the theft of 21 solar panels from the Grey Barn on South Road stolen sometime over Presidents Day weekend.
According to the police report, the crate containing the panels weighed over 1,000 pounds. The 270-watt panels are valued at $14,000. Farm owners Eric and Molly Glasgow are currently outfitting their four new barns with solar panels, about 300 of which have already been installed.
A bookkeeper for the Steamship Authority who embezzled almost $145,000 over some eight years has been sentenced to a year in prison and ordered to make full restitution to the boat line.
Armine Estelle Sabatini was sentenced last Friday by chief U.S. District Court Judge Mark L. Wolf. She also will have to pay an additional $4,000 fine and be subject to three years’ parole after release from prison. Ms. Sabatini will report to prison at noon on Jan. 25, 2011, to begin her time.
A 58-year-old Edgartown woman was arrested Monday after confessing to breaking into six homes in the downtown village, Det. Sgt. Chris Dolby of the Edgartown police said.
Christine Houston was arraigned on Tuesday in Edgartown district court on six counts of breaking and entering in the nighttime and several counts of larceny. She was given representation and entered a plea of not guilty. She is being held in Bristol County jail on $10,000 bail. Further charges are expected, Detective Dolby said.
Oak Bluffs police believe they have cleared up hundreds of peeping Tom incidents in the town stretching back over six or eight years, as well as two breaking and entering cases involving assaults on women, with the arrest of a man last Friday.
Irton A. DeSouza, 35, of Oak Bluffs, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. after being tracked down with the help of video footage recorded on a surveillance system set up by an Oak Bluffs homeowner, which captured him looking into windows.
A Lexington woman is facing criminal charges after she drove her car the wrong way down a one-way street in Edgartown, leaving a trail of damage in its wake.
At 4:12 a.m. Sunday Edgartown police received a report of a gray Toyota with extensive front-end damage that had driven the wrong way down North Water street, crossed Main street and proceeded onto South Water street.
