Welcome, Carter
Andria and Kevin Alexander, of Edgartown, announce the birth of a son, Carter David Alexander, born on July 20, 2009, at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Carter weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces at birth.
Correction: A story in the Tuesday Gazette about the Feast of the Holy Ghost carried a picture of Ashley Moreis carrying the crown of Mary, a long-held Portuguese tradition. In fact Sophie Combra was chosen to carry the crown, as shown in the picture above. The Gazette regrets the mix-up.
On Friday, July 31, Wyatt Jenkinson will receive Mass Audubon’s James K. Whittemore Young Naturalist Award. The award is given to youths for excellence in environmental stewardship.
Wyatt was nominated by the staff at Mass Audubon’s Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, where he has attended summer camp for many years.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has a few nice animals that need good homes.
The shelter still has Sophie, a springer spaniel cross, very well house trained, spayed, with all her shots current. She needs to be in a home without cats.
There are two black kittens, still quite shy, but the staff is working with them to socialize them.
