Police Warning
Oak Bluffs police have responded to several calls reporting a peeping Tom over the past several weeks. In two incidents a man also entered homes occupied by women and sexually assaulted one of them. Police believe the incidents all may be related.
Police are asking residents to be vigilant by drawing shades at night, locking doors, using outdoor lighting and calling the police immediately if they hear or see any suspicious activity around their house or in their neighborhood.
If consumption of water and electricity and outflow of sewage is an indication, this has been a busy summer on the Vineyard.
The three down-Island towns all report increased water usage, much of it tied to the drought and heat.
Edgartown reports the largest numbers for water use and sewage flow. From January through July, the Edgartown water department pumped more than 161 million gallons of water to its customers. Last year the number was just over 120 million gallons.

The Steamship Authority this week decided to charge more for ambulances taking patients off-Island for treatment.
And the fare increases, which will take effect from Nov. 1, will be steep — nearly 100 per cent on some trips from the Vineyard and more than 100 per cent for some Nantucket trips.
Currently, the SSA charges $102.50 per round-trip for ambulances on the Vineyard route, and $215 on the Nantucket route. The price includes the fares of the driver and passengers, and there is no extra fee if the ambulance is over 20 feet long.
