Good for your body and your soul — that’s the theme this month at Curves of Vineyard Haven, where a donation to the food pantry not only helps out the community, but also could save you money.
The exercise center will waive the joining fee for new members who bring in a bag of nonperishable food or donate $30 to a local food bank from March 12 to 25.

There are signs of life in downtown Edgartown: two new dining options got the green light Wednesday night.
The Zoning Board of Appeals approved Patrick Courtney’s proposal to open a 49-seat restaurant at 55 Main Street, the former In the Woods location, and Bryan MacPhail’s proposal to serve food and ice cream from a take-out window on Dock Street.
Both establishments will have outdoor seating and are expected to open this summer.
The annual firework display in Oak Bluffs will continue this August, thanks to a substantial donation from the cable network Black Entertainment Television.
The future of the firework show was called into question last year when the Oak Bluffs Firemen’s Civic Association, the longtime sponsor of the show, said it could no longer afford to stage the popular event.
The deadline is fast approaching for 2012 educational scholarships administered by the Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard. All scholarship applications must be postmarked by March 15.
The permanent endowment will award 17 scholarships this year to both high school seniors and Vineyard students currently enrolled in college or graduate school. Last year, $144,300 in scholarships were awarded to 63 Island students, with awards ranging from $500 to $5,000.
