The annual firework display in Oak Bluffs will continue this August, thanks to a substantial donation from the cable network Black Entertainment Television.

The future of the firework show was called into question last year when the Oak Bluffs Firemen’s Civic Association, the longtime sponsor of the show, said it could no longer afford to stage the popular event.

“Once we found out that the fireworks would be canceled, we were happy to step in and continue to provide our guests and audiences with a truly memorable experience,” Michael Pickrum, executive vice president and chief financial officer of BET Networks, said in a statement on Tuesday. The cable network stages a lavish party in Oak Bluffs each summer.

BET Networks and the Firemen’s Civic Association will present the fireworks show on Friday, August 17.
