Just in from Boston: The Vineyarders fought hard to the finish, but fell 70-65 to undefeated Wareham in the MIAA baskebtall state section finals this afternoon. A full report will follow shortly.

The Martha’s Vineyard Commission has approved the expansion of Vineyard entrepreneur Elio Silva’s new grocery store planned for State Road.
Last year the commission approved Mr. Silva’s plans to consolidate his two businesses, Vineyard Grocer and Tisbury Farm Market, at the location that most recently housed Island Home Furnishings. There are two buildings on the property and Mr. Silva had planned to demolish and rebuild the front building, expanding the footprint of the complex from 5,800 to 7,400 square feet.
The waters around Menemsha Pond are a bit cleaner today thanks to the efforts of a regional high school sophomore, Isabel Smith, of West Tisbury, who was scouting for a science fair project she could do last month. Miss Smith did a project on Creating the Most Effective Catch Basin that is already yielding some real-world results.
The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) has jumped into the casino game again, with the tribe’s chairman requesting a referendum vote from three southeastern Massachusetts towns to test public support for a casino.
Fall River mayor William Flanagan confirmed on Monday that he had received a request from tribal chairman Cheryl Andrews-Maltais for a vote within the next 90 days. Separate requests were also sent to the towns of Lakeville and Freetown.
Mitt Romney can count Martha’s Vineyard among his Super Tuesday victories.
The Island, like the rest of Massachusetts, overwhelmingly voted for Mr. Romney in the Republican primary on Tuesday, with the former governor receiving 64 per cent of the Republican vote. Mr. Romney won 72 per cent of the vote statewide in Massachusetts, which was one of 10 states to hold primary elections on Tuesday.
