The Arts District on Dukes County avenue in Oak Bluffs invites everyone to crawl with them evert Thursday evenings in July. All the galleries will stay open late for lingering over art with the artists, gallery owners and friends. The first evening crawl is this Thursday, July 5.

Katherine Rogers, a New Hampshire attorney who was selected to serve as Dukes County manager by the county commissioners last week, will not accept the position. She informed the County of her decision on Thursday morning.

“She is unable to accept the position due to pressing medical problems that she must deal with first,” said Melinda Loberg, chair of the board of commissioners. “There is an unknown time frame for that, so it’s hard to predict when she might be available.”

A small gas leak at Church’s Pier in Oak Bluffs saw a quick response from the Oak Bluffs fire department on the afternoon of July 4.

Oak Bluffs fire chief Peter Forend received a call from the owner of Nancy’s restaurant at 4:14 p.m. reporting the leak. He said the leak originated from the holding tank at the fuel dock. The line was shut down immediately and foam was dispersed to prevent a fire hazard. A boom was placed in the water to contain the leak.

The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking information about an unnamed sailing vessel that is 24 hours overdue en route from Montauk to Nantucket. In a notice to mariners, Coast Guard is asking for information about a 25-foot sailing vessel. The occupant onboard is John Mahoney, 45. The Coast Guard began sending out the notice this morning. “All mariners are requested to keep a sharp lookout,” according to the notice.

Neighbors to a large house that is now nearly built on Nashaquitsa Pond in Chilmark have asked the town zoning board of appeals to enforce what they claim are zoning violations on the property.

The 8,200-square-foot house being built by Adam Zoia on the former Harrison property has been the subject of widespread discussion in Chilmark during the last year, including at the town planning board over whether more rules need to be developed to regulate very large houses in town.
