Legislation Proposed to Ban Jet Ski Use

Harbor masters, town officials and many Island residents consider them a safety hazard and an annoyance. Users buy and rent them as recreational vehicles and for the fun of riding Vineyard waters at high speed.

The two colliding positions run to the heart of a longstanding Island and national dispute over use of personal watercraft, better known to many as Jet Skis. Now state legislative proposals governing the use of these watercraft may be changing.

Main Street Project Asks Modest Change in Vineyard Haven

The Main Street Project committee presented at a public hearing last Thursday a plan for the restoration of the Vineyard Haven thoroughfare after it is torn apart to install a sewer system.

The plan is a modest one. Only a few alterations are proposed for the existing Main street.

Some changes are to create a more efficient working roadway. Others are just basic aesthetic improvements.

Vineyard Ice Arena Launches Final Step in Expansion Drive

After more than 20 years of undergoing structural improvement in stages, the Martha's Vineyard Arena is just one step away from becoming a first-rate facility.

That final step is the addition of locker rooms with showers and bathrooms. With just a little bit of financial help, arena patrons will see the facility's final piece put into place.

Tisbury Inn Reconstruction Start Prompts Angry Complaints from Business Owners

A group of Main street business owners stood by helplessly this week as their stores experienced earthquake-like conditions after reconstruction work on the Tisbury Inn began Monday.

The former anchor of the downtown business district was destroyed by a fire in December.
