Vineyard fishermen have joined a federal lawsuit against the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission over the lack of management of river herring and shad in federal waters. The lawsuit targets offshore industrial large-scale fishing boats working the Gulf of Maine and waters south of the Vineyard as culprits in the sharp decline of the fish.

Alison and Scott Stearns, of West Tisbury, announce the birth of a daughter, Adele Winslow Stearns, born on Sept. 17, 2010 at Newton- Wellesley Hospital. Adele weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces at birth. Adele also is welcomed by big sister Freya Stearns.

Rita and Adevalde Freitas of Edgartown announce the birth of a son, Murilo, born on Sept. 25 at 9:30 p.m. at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Murilo weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces at birth.
Welcome Moses
Rebekah and Joshua Thomson of Chilmark announce the birth of a son, Moses Yutaka Thomsom, born on Sept. 26 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Moses weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces at birth. Moses is also welcomed by big sister Leah Hiroko and proud grandparents Susan and Jeff Parker of Chilmark.
Welcome Andrew
Cleveland and Kevin Miller are delighted to announce the arrival of their second New Year’s baby.
Andrew Judson Miller came into the world at 2:29 a.m., on Sept. 9, 2010, the first day of the Jewish New Year.
He weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 20 inches in length.
Andrew is welcomed by his older brother, Matthew, who is two years and nine months old, who also was a New Year’s baby, born on the first of January.
