A Main street Vineyard Haven restaurant that has sat empty for years was singled out for biting criticism by one of the town selectmen this week, who openly questioned whether the owner was acting in good faith.

“I see Cafe Moxie opened up this morning,” said selectman Jeffrey Kristal at the Tuesday board meeting. “No, I’m kidding,” he added with evident sarcasm.

Steven A. Schwab, a prominent Island insurance executive and well-known Chilmark resident, was arrested and charged last week with child molestation stemming from incidents in West Tisbury and Chilmark in which he allegedly exposed himself to a child.

At a potluck lunch on Tuesday afternoon to honor Frank Fenner on his retirement after 12 years as a Chilmark selectmen, Chuck Hodgkinson, who has worked on many special projects with Mr. Fenner, read a top ten list of things the town employees will miss about Mr. Fenner.

“Number eight - receiving a 92 item punch list with details such as ‘front bedroom on right is missing a nail where the gable meets the closet.’”

Farmers’ Market Moves

The Oak Bluffs Open Market is on the move. The farmers’ market will relocate to Washington Park, between Our Market and the Ocean View Restaurant. The market will be held Sundays, beginning May 13 and continuing through Oct. 28. Market hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during July and August.

Danielle Nickowal and Abraham Rendon of Vineyard Haven announce the birth of a son, Issac Micheal Rendon, born on April 23 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Issac weighed 7 pounds, 3.5 ounces at birth.

Leadership Award

Owners and managers from South Mountain Co. of West Tisbury recently joined some 3,000 architects, builders and energy practitioners from around the Northeast for the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association’s annual conference in Boston.

Company president John Abrams was a keynote speaker and led a workshop at the conference, and director of engineering Marc Rosenbaum received the association’s professional leadership award, becoming only the third winner of the prestigious award.
