Edgartown businesses are hoping that a new event, the Pink & Green weekend, will usher in the summer season a few weeks early.

The weekend, which got its name from the pink cherry tree blossoms already blooming in Edgartown, is a celebration of spring and Mother’s Day, said Edgartown board of trade president Maggie White.

The renovated historic Tashmoo Spring Building will be open for business this summer, and Tisbury selectmen approved the Vineyard Playhouse on Tuesday as its first tenant.

Volunteer of the Year

James Harrison of Edgartown has been named Volunteer of the Year by the Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands.

Mr. Harrison, known as Jim, has run the Edgartown Meals on Wheels route since 1989. He is also a longtime deacon for the Federated Church in Edgartown, a member of the Airfield Commission for the Katama Air Park and the First and Third Club in Edgartown, and has served on the board of directors for the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard.

Tea Lane Farm could soon be home to pick-your-own strawberries or fields of thousands of lilies and zinnias. Finalists for tenant farmer of the historic 18th century farm presented their plans to the Chilmark selectmen this week.

The three finalists — Rusty Gordon and Sarah Crittenden, Krishana Collins and Allen Healy — were interviewed at a joint meeting between the selectmen and Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank town advisory board on Tuesday night.
