The Lightkeepers Inn on Simpson’s Lane in Edgartown has been selected an editor’s choice in the Yankee Magazine’s recommendations for best family accommodations in Massachusetts for 2010. The Lightkeepers Inn is all suites; each two-room suite features a kitchen/living room as well as a separate bedroom.

First Babies: Welcome

Charlie and MacKenna

The first babies were born in the maternity unit at the new Martha’s Vineyard Hospital last week: first a boy and then a girl.

Gretta Gonzalez and Mario Arellano welcomed Charlie into the world at 9:05 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23. Charlie weighed three pounds, six ounces at birth, and joins big brother Mario Jr.

Announcing Míra

MíraCatríona Davis was born to Sarah and Jake Davis on June 7, at home in Chilmark. She is joyously welcomed by big brother Cian and the families of Dave and Karen (Kohlberg) Davis, of Chilmark and Petersham, and Kay and Denis Hegarty of Dublin, Ireland.

Army Spec. Wender S. Ramos has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Mature Workers

The Mature Workers Program is an employment service for Island residents 55 years old or older who are on limited incomes and who would like to get back to work.

The program offers paid work experience and skills training opportunities on the Vineyard.

Jimmy and Pam Dodson of Hillsborough are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lisa Marie, to Tyler Westan Stevens of West Palm Beach, Fla. Tyler is the son of John and Susan Stevens of Edgartown. The wedding is set for Saturday, August 28, on the Vineyard.

The bride graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene.
