The towns of Edgartown and Tisbury this week signed agreements with the Cape and Vineyard Energy Cooperative estimated to save them a collective $9.4 million in electricity costs over the next 20 years.

And the energy will not only be cheap, but clean. The cooperative will build large solar arrays at three different locations in Edgartown, with a combined production capacity of 4.5 megawatts, and one in Tisbury with a capacity of about 1.25 megawatts.

Now in a new documentary to be aired by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), young children will be able to learn about the tougher issues in life such as hunger. And a Vineyard single dad and his children will play a leading role.

The West Tisbury selectmen have formed a task force to broadly evaluate the Up-Island Regional School District, but district committee members say they will not participate.

“What you’re doing with this task force is the process the school committee goes through, which says to me you don’t trust us,” said committee chairman Dan Cabot at a meeting of the committee Thursday night that was attended by the West Tisbury selectmen.

Key leadership changes at the Oak Bluffs and Tisbury schools were announced by Vineyard schools superintendent Dr. James H. Weiss yesterday.

Beginning August 1, Tisbury School principal Richard Smith will take the helm as principal at the Oak Bluffs School. And John Custer, assistant principal in Tisbury, will move up to become principal at that school.

Current Oak Bluffs principal Carlin Hart, who has been on the job for a year, will return to his former position as assistant principal in Oak Bluffs.

Lambert’s Cove Inn executive chef Max Eagan showed up for pickup day at Whippoorwill Farm’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program on Friday with other shareholders, basket and scissors at the ready. But Mr. Eagan wasn’t picking the last of the strawberry harvest and snapping sugar snap peas off the wiry bushes on the Oak Bluffs farm for himself — he was picking for the restaurant.
