Aquinnah voters will be asked at a special town meeting Tuesday night to restore the town’s full share of the Tri-Town Ambulance Service budget and pay for a portion of an affordable housing study.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the old Aquinnah town hall. Michael Hebert will preside over the short, three-article warrant. A quorum of 39 voters is needed to convene the meeting.

Chilmark selectmen took up a series of summer housekeeping items this week, approving the Chilmark Road Race, wrapping up harbor repair projects and reviewing advertising bylaws.

The selectmen approved the annual road race at their weekly meeting on Tuesday with one requirement: There must be more portable bathrooms throughout the course.

What came first — the chicken or the egg? It’s one of those questions that has plagued the human race for ages, but Up-Island Eggs owner Katherine Long settled the debate on Friday afternoon as she was giving her chickens a treat of corn.

“The thing that laid an egg wasn’t a chicken, the thing that hatched out of the egg was the chicken,” Ms. Long said. “Whatever laid the egg first was something else. The egg came first.”

The Vineyard Family Planning clinic — for now — has been spared deep state budget cuts that threatened the 30-year old clinic with possible closure.

“It is a huge step in the right direction, it’s a big relief,” said Elizabeth Torrant, chief operations officer of Health Imperatives Inc., in a telephone interview Friday morning. Formerly Health Care of Southeastern Massachusetts, the health group manages the Vineyard clinic.

The towns of Edgartown and Tisbury this week signed agreements with the Cape and Vineyard Energy Cooperative estimated to save them a collective $9.4 million in electricity costs over the next 20 years.

And the energy will not only be cheap, but clean. The cooperative will build large solar arrays at three different locations in Edgartown, with a combined production capacity of 4.5 megawatts, and one in Tisbury with a capacity of about 1.25 megawatts.
