Children’s books are magical. Just ask Island author Kate Feiffer, who debuts her latest children’s book, Signed by Zelda, on Thursday, April 5, at the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in downtown Vineyard Haven.
Her last book, No Go Sleep, arrived in book stores just last month.
Next Friday, April 6, you are going to Boston or be prepared to hear the stories of how you missed the night everyone had their mind blown by being the first to experience a live show of DCLA’s new CD at the Hard Rock Cafe.
There will be no excuses, no whining, no saying it’s a drag to travel off-Island if you don’t have a car.
The boys in the band have arranged for a bus to take Islanders to the show and return them the next day, more or less in one piece.
Violin Recital
This Sunday, April 1, at 4 p.m. the students of Rebecca Barca-Tinus’ violin classes will perform in the 21st annual spring concert at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. The students range in age from three to sixty. Think bow puppies to Bach.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 508-696-1920.
Charter School Chats Up Shakespeare
This weekend the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury. The performances are tonight, Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 31, at 2 and 7 p.m.
The play features 15 student actors from grades 5 through 12. Lower school students act as fairies, and there will be guest appearances by several teachers, as well as the school’s director, Bob Moore.
Big Guitar Rocks Pit Stop
The Pit Stop continues to be the go-to place for music each weekend in Oak Bluffs. On Friday, April 6, at 7 p.m., Daniel Macke takes the stage along with Kenny Lockwood, Nancy Jephcote and Paul Thurlow.
Mr. Macke hails from Port Townsend, Wash. and likes to play a big guitar. “I love the jumbo bodied guitars and the full, rich sound that comes with looking like a dwarf when you play one,” he said.
Comedy Night
It’s comedy night at the Harborview Hotel again.
On March 30, the hotel welcomes Joe Larson, Mike Whitman and Taylor Connelly to its stage. This is the third in an ongoing series of winter and spring comedy nights. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and available by calling 508-627-7000.
This is a 21 and older show.
