With the school year nearing and many personnel out on vacation, there are still three major regional administrative positions to be filled.
The Cape Cod Collaborative conducted a search for assistant superintendent of schools beginning two weeks ago that has yielded five candidates, including three off-Island and two local applicants. None of the candidates are currently employed by the school district, Vineyard schools superintendent Dr. James H. Weiss said.
The Edgartown School has announced its honor roll for the fourth quarter of the 2012-2013 academic year.

The parents and students of the Vineyard contingent of eighth graders attending Falmouth Academy held a graduation party for themselves at the Chilmark Community Center on Friday night, June 7. As perhaps the largest class ever of students commuting to the mainland for two school years, they gained a reputation among fellow commuters for their pleasant demeanor, high spirits and generally good behavior.
The West Tisbury School has a new principal, Vineyard schools superintendent Dr. James H. Weiss announced Wednesday.
Donna Lowell-Bettencourt, interim director of student support services at Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools, will take over the role before the start of the school year, Mr. Weiss said.
“We have chosen Donna Lowell-Bettencourt and she has agreed. We will work out the details of her moving from the present position to that one in the next week or so,” he said.
Kevin Burchill, a recent Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School graduate and recipient of a $1,000 Comcast scholarship for community service, leadership skills and academic achievement, attended a Comcast Leaders and Achievers ceremony at the State House in Boston on June 18.
