The National Association for the Education of Young Children has reaccredited the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Child Care and Learning Center.

For the first time in years, crews from all six Island volunteer fire departments will participate in Sunday’s Dukes County Firefighters’ Muster in Oak Bluffs.

While the firemens’ muster is firefighting work and play at its best, the festivities have a serious aspect. The muster is another opportunity to practice firefighting skills, with the help of a clock, a crowd and competition.

Housing Block Grant

Oak Bluffs and Tisbury have been awarded $615,909 for housing rehabilitation through a federal community development block grant announced by Gov. Deval Patrick. The towns will use the money to rehabilitate 18 housing units.

Hello, Samuel

Kristen and John Weber of Jefferson City, Mo., announce the birth of a son, Samuel James Weber, on July 9. Samuel weighed 8 pounds at birth. His grandmother, Mary Ann Brock, lives in West Tisbury. Samuel also is welcomed by brothers Sean and Jackson, and sisters Christina, Sarah and Katelyn.

Marcella Arrives

Jennifer Porter Guadagno and Joseph Guadagno of Concord, N.H., announce the birth of a daughter, Marcella Isla Porter Guadagno, on July 4 at the Martha’s Vineyard Community Hospital. Marcella weighed 6 pounds, 5 ounces at birth.
