Word reached the Gazette over the weekend from Tom Hammond of Costa Mesa, Calif., that his younger brother Kevin Hammond, age 54 and a longtime resident of Oak Bluffs, was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital May 18. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, his time is short. On June 26 he got word he was being transferred to Harborside Health Care at 359 Jones Road, Falmouth, MA 02540. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Keith of Chilmark announce the engagement of their daughter, Lucy Ward Keith, to Tomas Diagne of Dakar, Senegal.
Bravo season five Top Chef finalist Stefan Richter will headline the Martha’s Vineyard Food and Wine Festival, from Oct. 16 to 18. The chef will work his culinary magic on local fresh fish, shellfish, and locally-raised meat and produce while vintners from around the world offer wine samplings.
The festival is held in Edgartown, held outdoors on the campus of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, in a beautiful white tent lit in the late afternoon by elegant brass lamps.
The seventh annual Vineyard Streetball Classic, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, is slated for Saturday, July 4 at Niantic Park in Oak Bluffs. Opening rounds begin at 10 a.m.
Under bright sunny skies, The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard held the first annual celebration of pets at Sunset Lake in Oak Bluffs. From Odie, the gentle Pinto horse, to a cat named Smokey and a parrot named Livingston, all creatures great and small (including the duck in the lake) had a simply lovely time.
Good Dog Goods provided the delicate bone-shaped hors d’oeuvres while beverages were served in elegant stainless steel pails, or Chilmark Spring Water bottles, depending upon the number of legs.
