The Paper Store in Edgartown has joined Island Outfitters in Oak Bluffs in carrying vintage styled T-shirts, hats and tote bags imprinted on the front with an area code (say, 508) and on the back, the name of a place. The products come from TophDaddy Designs, based in Sudbury.
A Dukes County grand jury indicted Peter J. Duart, 42, of Daggett avenue on a single count of rape (subsequent offense) stemming from allegations that he sexually abused a person who is mentally challenged.
Mr. Duart has been held in the Edgartown house of correction since his arrest in March on charges of rape and indecent assault and battery on a retarded person, a term used in the state statute.
Jimmy and Pam Dodson of Hillsborough are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lisa Marie, to Tyler Westan Stevens of West Palm Beach, Fla. Tyler is the son of John and Susan Stevens of Edgartown. The wedding is set for Saturday, August 28, on the Vineyard.
The bride graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene.
West Tisbury selectmen on Wednesday voted to nominate several ancient ways as additions to a special ways district of critical planning concern, heard a presentation about the new Islandwide reverse 911 system, and approved the process for hiring a new administrative assistant position at town hall.
The meeting began with a joint session of selectmen and the roads and byways committee, which was called to discuss the nomination of Pine Hill Road, Shubael Weeks Path and Red Coat Hill Road/Motts Hill Road, as the latest addition to the special ways DCPC.
The Aquinnah special town meeting scheduled for this week was continued to Wednesday, June 30, after the meeting failed to reach a quorum Tuesday night. The meeting was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., and town moderator Michael Hebert made an announcement at around 7:30 that, at seven voters short of a quorum, the meeting would have to be postponed.
Mr. Hebert asked everyone present to reappear at the old town hall at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the continued meeting, and asked each person to bring a friend in order to guarantee a quorum.
