Dean’s List
Daniel K. Kaeka 5th of West Tisbury has been named to the dean’s list at Western New England College for the fall semester of 2010. Mr. Kaeka is a sophomore majoring in pre-pharmacy.
The Holmes Hole Sailing Association will be docking at the Wharf Restaurant in Edgartown on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. for their annual dinner. A spot at the table needs to reserved by Feb. 10.
Leading this sail to the stomach will be newly elected Commodore Dan Culkin.
On the menu will be prime rib, salmon or grilled chicken. Sides will include mashed potatoes, spinach, chowder and salad.
The cost for the evening is $40. All supporters are invited to attend.
Robert Burns, the bard of Scotland, would have had a pleasant evening at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown on Saturday night. More than 100 Vineyarders turned out for the 24th annual Robert Burns Nicht Supper. There were toasts. Members of the Scottish Society of Martha’s Vineyard recited the poet’s words and sang his lyrics. They shared in the humor of a good Scottish story.
In what is likely to become a common theme, the Oak Bluffs selectmen spent much of their Tuesday meeting discussing the town’s budget problems.
The Martha’s Vineyard Museum would restore the former Marine Hospital’s view to Vineyard Haven harbor in its ambitious plan to relocate there, renovating the hospital building to house museum staff and collections, razing a 1938 brick addition, building a new barn-like structure running for exhibition and storage space, paving a 50-car parking lot and clear-cutting the property’s front lawns overlooking the Lagoon Pond, which have become overgrown in recent decades.
A Martha’s Vineyard Commission subcommittee decided this week to require a new traffic study for a proposed fuel station off State Road in Vineyard Haven, but not before a bit of open disagreement on the merits.
