The Vineyard Gazette office will be closed on Monday in observance of the state holiday which commemorates the battle of Lexington and Concord.
Selectmen stepped out of the deluge on Wednesday afternoon — with Jeffrey (Skipper) Manter 3rd wearing a life preserver for dramatic effect — to take care of town business. Police chief Dan Rossi updated selectmen on their submerged citizenry.
“You know the North Tisbury bridge near the old Humphrey’s?” he said. “The water is hitting the concrete on the east side. It’s still going through but I’ve never seen it that high, ever. I let Mass DPW know about it.”
No further subdivision will be allowed in the Sweetened Water subdivision in Edgartown for now, the town planning board ruled last week.
At issue before the board was a Form A application from Sweetened Water resident Dwight Arundale to divide his 2.6-acre lot into two parcels. Technically called approval not required, the Form A process allows simple subdivisions on land with adequate road frontage.
Greenhouse Restaurant
Facing objection from neighboring businesses, a public hearing for a new outdoor restaurant in Edgartown was continued last week after the zoning board of appeals asked the applicants to think through their seating plan more thoroughly.
Brothers Patrick and Theodore Courtney applied to convert a greenhouse tucked off South Water street into a summer restaurant. The plan calls for 40 seats inside and out, and a grilling area beneath a covered porch.
Spring Break Camp
The YMCA will sponsor a full-day program for children during the upcoming April school vacation. Children will discover the Y’s four core concepts of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in this weeklong program and visit Oak Bluff’s Ben and Bill’s Chocolate Emporium and the Flying Horses.
Please Adopt Us
Cages at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard are fast becoming empty, which is good news but soon kittens will be arriving so our volunteers will be busy again.
Please come in and consider adopting one of our long-term cats. And the sweet little bunny C.J. was adopted just in time for Easter, but Grace, the guinea pig, is still with us.
