Edgartown has three new library trustees. In the annual town election Thursday voters elected Julie Lively, Deanna Ahearn Laird and Bob Avakian to the board, knocking out three incumbents in a year when building plans for a new library have occupied much public attention.

The total turnout was 515 voters, or 16.6 per cent of the town’s registered voters in an election that had few contests. Voting took place at the town hall on a sunny, spring-like day.

On the walls of the regional high school gymnasium adjacent to two yellowing banners from 1985 and 1986, and below one hung just last year to commemorate the boys’ basketball team’s Eastern Athletic Conference championship, is an empty space where another E.A.C. championship banner will go. Mr. Joyce earned two of those banners as a center for the Vineyard team, and now he will hang his second as a coach. Last week The Boston Globe recognized him as their Division 3 coach of the year.

Stormy, soggy weather forced the cancellation of several of this week’s games, but the Vineyarders made the most of their limited time on the fields and courts. Most teams have next week off for spring break, although baseball will take to the road for three games and boys’ lacrosse plays Monday and Wednesday at home.

Around this time every year, for the past 17, a group of children have come to Martha’s Vineyard for the same reason as many do: for refuge. The children’s need is usually greater than most, for they are children living with HIV/AIDS. Next week, Camp Safe Haven returns to the Island, where this now global nonprofit was born. As part of the week’s activities, all Islanders are invited to a fund-raising reception called Home Sweet Home, on Tuesday, April 19, from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Take advantage of the break in the rain forecast for Saturday by taking the boat over to Woods Hole to see other boats — a special show of model boats, radio-controlled model boat races, talks about boats, and the chance for children to sail a wooden model boat, too.
