University Dean’s List
The following students were named to the dean’s list for the 2010 fall semester at the University of Massachusetts Amherst: Katherine Bernier and Cassandra L. Nordstrom of Edgartown; Ashley E. Rebello of Oak Bluffs, Marta Ilse Azzollini, Celeste V. Bailey, Conor Coit Boland, Eleanor Josephine Hehre, Margaretta C. Hehre, Ruby R. Hoy, Katherine E. Keppeler, Christina J. Reppert, Mark A. Reppert and Rebecca M. Swartwood of Vineyard Haven; and Chantal M. Gomes, Eliza Rose Greene and Julius B. Lowe of West Tisbury.
The Vineyard Tennis Center women tennis players traveled to Falmouth for an interclub match in March. Both Falmouth Sports Center and the Vineyard Tennis Center played first time women’s doubles team pairings.
Doreen Rezendez and Susan Stevens hosted the longest rallies of any team, taking one hour to play, and narrowly lost their first set 6-7. They came back in their second set to a 5-4 score before time ended their match.
After a slow spring break week, the regional high school teams will get things started up again this Tuesday with home games, meets and matches for softball, girls’ lacrosse, girls’ tennis, and track. The baseball team will play at home on Monday.
Greg Fligor won the slalom gold medal at the National Snowboard Championship in Copper Mountain, Colo., in a dramatic week of competition. Greg is the son of Leslye and Andy Fligor of Weston and Edgartown, and the grandson of Carol and Dick Fligor of Edgartown.
Collegiate Scholar
Brianna Buchanan of Vineyard Haven has been nominated for membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is a freshman at Northern Arizona University.
Hello, Filip
Nadia Turanska-Alberghini and Garrett Alberghini of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of a second son, Filip Alois Alberghini, born on April 14, 2011, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Filip weighed 7 pounds, 2.8 ounces at birth. He is welcomed by big brother Adrian Alberghini.
