Everything is connected to everything else. Thus the moves in the 1980s to deregulate the trucking industry have wound up, 30 years later, costing the Steamship Authority and its employees millions of dollars.
It’s a convoluted series of events, traced by the SSA in a recent statement explaining why the cost of providing retirement benefits to its employees had just gone up by around $500,000 a year.
Bass and Blues for Boys and Girls is a new fishing contest to benefit Island children. Fishing starts early tomorrow morning and continues until 3 p.m. when there will be an awards ceremony and cookout. The striped bass and bluefish contest benefits the Martha’s Vineyard Boys’ and Girls’ Club.
The Vineyard Football Association is celebrating its 20th year hosting Martha’s Vineyard’s premier adult coed summer soccer league, with the eight-week season set to begin on Tuesday, June 28, and games scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 and 6:45 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven.
Open enrollment for the Commonwealth Care program began on Wednesday and will continue through June 24. It is the only time during the year when members may change health plans for any reason.
“We will give members all the information and support they need to choose a health plan that best meets their needs,” said the executive director of the Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority, Glen Shor. “Members should carefully review the material we’ve sent them to see how changes in premiums and provider networks may affect them.”
