The Lagoon Pond drawbridge will be closed to traffic Tuesday evening while the Massachusetts Department of Transportation conducts a series of tests. Drivers are being asked to seek alternative routes between the hours of 9 p.m Tuesday, Nov. 15 and 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Signs indicated detour routes will be posted near the entrances to the bridge.

Edgartown selectmen voted on Monday to appeal the Martha’s Vineyard Commission’s approval of the roundabout for the blinker intersection in Oak Bluffs.

“It is not a complete plan,” said selectman Arthur Smadbeck at the weekly meeting Monday afternoon. Selectman Michael Donaroma agreed. “They’ve made a decision on a plan that doesn’t really exist, that bothers me,” he said. “I’m going to make the motion to appeal the decision until they get the right plan.”

Though chicken wings are usually reserved for Sunday afternoon football, all bets are off on Saturday as town departments and organizations from across the Island compete for the best wing recipe at the third annual Wingfest at Sharky’s Cantina in Edgartown. The $25 price of admission entitles you to all you can eat, plus a say in which participating organization’s recipe will be crowned the winner.

Football plays its homecoming game (and final home game of the season) Friday against Medford at 6:30 p.m. Senior recognition begins at 5:30 p.m.

A Homecoming dance will take place Saturday, 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the Ocean Club. Only current MVRHS students may attend.

The Island Cup will be played Saturday, Nov. 19 at Nantucket. Tickets for the fan boat go on sale Monday and can be purchased in the high school cafeteria during lunch periods (11 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.). Tickets are $30 round-trip for adults and $20 for seniors and students.

Islanders will have a number of opportunities to pay their respects to servicemen and women on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11.

Oak Bluffs will mark the day with an annual parade, which the U.S. Department of Veterans Affiairs recently recognized as a special designation of regional importance. The parade will begin at 10:45 a.m. at Our Market. From there, it will continue to the monument at Ocean Park and finish at the VFW, located at 14 Towanticut avenue.
