A nine-month investigation into fraud at the Edgartown wastewater department came to a head on Monday when the Edgartown district court issued a criminal complaint against a septic hauler who repeatedly failed to properly record his deliveries at the town treatment plant. The investigation, conducted by the Cape and Islands district attorney’s office, as well as state and Edgartown police, also pointed to possible violations of the state ethics law by an unnamed town selectman and town employees.

All four traffic lanes on the Bourne Bridge have been reopened following a weeks-long steel repair project, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District has announced.

Steel repair work will continue below the road deck on the Bourne Bridge until the fall of 2012, resulting in occasional one-day lane restrictions during the next couple of weeks and through the fall of 2012.

Only family scalloping will be allowed in Aquinnah this season, per the advice of the Aquinnah shellfish. Research into the pond’s beds showed an abundance of seed, but not a significant amount of adult scallops for commercial fisherman to harvest.

If an area is discovered to have and abundance of marketable scallops, the shellfish committee will meet again to discuss opening up the pond for commercial fishing.

The boys’ hockey teams are sponsoring a Stuff-A-Bus drive throughout the weekend, with proceeds going to benefit the Island Food Pantry. Bring canned goods to the Martha’s Vineyard Arena today from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to midnight (with a break for the teams’ games against Bourne), and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The boys’ varsity team will take on Bourne on Saturday at 6 p.m.; the JV squad will play at 5 p.m. The girls’ squad takes on North Quincy in a 1 p.m. home game.

Yesterday morning Mas Kimball of Oak Bluffs packed his bags for a three-day trip to New York. Specifically, Zucotti Park. It’s his fourth trip since October.

“You get the criticism, oh you’re just being idealistic,” he said one day earlier. “We love the way children are free-spirited and idealistic but then it’s beaten out of us as we get older. Luckily I’m 62 years old and it still hasn’t been beaten out of me.”
