Two years after a sharply divided town electorate approved the sale of beer and wine in Vineyard Haven restaurants, Tisbury selectmen may ask voters to expand wine sales beyond the dining room. Two Massachusetts wineries are eyeing the Down-Island Farmers’ Market to sell and sample their wines this summer, and this week selectmen said they were receptive to the idea.
“I don’t have problem with it,” said selectmen Jeffrey Kristal. “I’m all for opening up that can of worms that I was accused years ago that I would open.”
The second of the Sail Martha’s Vineyard dinner and lecture series at the Black Dog Tavern takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. The speaker is Dan O’Connor from Life Raft and Survival Equipment Co. located in Tiverton, RI. Mr. O’Connor’s talk is titled Safety at Sea. His presentation will focus on what saved the crew members from the s/v Rambler during the 2011 Fastnet Race.
Edgartown town counsel Ronald H. Rappaport had strong words of criticism Tuesday for Norman Rankow, the former chairman of the town dredge advisory committee who used the town-owned dredge for a private project in the town harbor last month without a permit and in violation of state and town environmental laws.

For the first time in the program’s 14-year history, the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School girls’ hockey team qualified for the state tournament, defeating visiting Marshfield 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the girls move to 10-7 on the season with two games left to play. In order to reach the state tournament, a team must have a .500 record or above.
