It is not often a child gets to hold history. That’s why Nancy Cole, Education Director at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, is especially excited for the summer. The museum debuts a Hands-on-History exhibit today, which will bring the past to life through physical interaction. Opening in the old kids’ space of the museum’s Pease House, the exhibit consists of a number of stations at which visitors can hone skills characteristic of the Island’s native Wampanoags, and settlers and maritime figures throughout the ages.

Oak Bluffs school principal Richie Smith has announced the honor roll for the second trimester of the 2011-2012 academic year.

Eighth grade high honors go to Madeline Alley, Emma Caron, Oliver Carson and Courtney Howell.

University Graduate

Zoe Shanor Crossland recently graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a bachelor of science degree in plant-insect and soil sciences. She was speaker for her class at graduation. Zoe will continue working for her dad at Crossland Landscape.

Doctorate Degree

Nancy Langman of Vineyard Haven, program director at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services Island Counseling Center, received her doctorate in nursing practice in public health leadership from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst on May 11.

The degree carries a specialty focus on Alzheimer’s disease and caregivers.

Her prior degrees include a bachelor’s from Wagner College, a master’s in psychiatric nursing from Boston University and a master’s in public health from Tulane University.

Awarded Degree

Alicia Lauren Agnoli has graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine. The daughter of Francine and Jeffrey Agnoli of Edgartown, Alicia received a joint M.D. and master’s degree in public health in ceremonies held May 20. Dr. Agnoli, a 2001 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, will begin her residency program in Family Medicine at Tufts Medical Center this July.

Husband and wife team, Robert and Sherry Sidoti, have just opened their own studio located at 517 State Road, Vineyard Haven, next to the Black Dog cafe. There will be a full schedule of classes and workshops offered as well as the Island’s only certified Yoga Teacher Training Program, the FLY Yoga School, led by Sherry.
