A large white cake sat on a table toward the back of the tent on Saturday afternoon in Ocean Park. On it was a picture of a hand holding a rose, with the words “A flower for Della.” The picture was drawn by Shel Silverstein to honor Della Hardman.

Twenty-two dreams were auctioned off at this year's Possible Dreams auction, including two vacations in a private home in Galway Bay, Ireland, which raised $24,000, this year’s live auction record. The event has raised more than $400,000 thus far, said Liza May, the auction chairman.

This year’s Martha’s Vineyard Book Festival takes place August 1 through August 2 and features a mix of fiction and nonfiction authors, including former congressmen and chefs and best-selling authors.

The 37th annual Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction will be held on Sunday, July 26 at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Edgartown. This year’s auction will celebrate Norman Bridwell, the beloved creator of Clifford the Big Red Dog.
