Tartan Day Exhibit
April 6 was National Tartan Day, and to help mark the occasion an exhibition of distinguished Scots and Scottish Americans opened at the Vineyard Haven Library this week. Designed by Max Bosman of Vineyard Haven, the exhibit features 20 people of Scottish heritage, including several who had ties to the Vineyard. The exhibit will remain up through the month of April.
Women Empowered
Women Empowered invites the public to dine at the Mediterranean Restaurant in Oak Bluffs on Sunday, April 11, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mediterranean is graciously donating a very generous portion of the proceeds in support of Women Empowered. Vineyard Verses
The Friends of the Chilmark Library invite Islanders to celebrate National Poetry Month with a reading by Vineyard poet and stonemason John Maloney on Wednesday, April 14 at 5:30 p.m. Mr. Maloney, has had work published in Poetry, Ploughshares, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and elsewhere, as well as in his two books, Proposal and Town of Chilmark. His work poem, Good!, was featured on Garrison Keillor’s National Public Radio show, The Writer’s Almanac, in March.
Benefit Party
The Portuguese American Club in Oak Bluffs is hosting Jimmy Buffet Night, a benefit party for Brenda Lehman, at 6 p.m. Friday, April 16. The evening will feature live music courtesy of the Sting Rays, food, trivia, silent auction, and prizes for best Parrothead. Zambian Open House
All Dolled Up
A doll making workshop for the benefit of Haitian children will be hosted by Pathways Projects Institutes on Saturday, March 20 at the Chilmark Tavern.
Sally Snipes will lead the group in creating a Waldorf-style cloth doll. Minimal sewing skills are required to make these soft, huggable dolls which will ultimately make their way into the arms of Haitian children. All materials will be supplied and children are welcome to participate if accompanied by an adult.
