The Vineyard Tennis Center will hold a tournament on Valentine’s Day weekend to benefit Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard.
It will be a mixed doubles, round robin tournament, with competition on Feb. 13 and 14 at Vineyard Tennis Center Workout and Spa near the airport. Teams will be ranked by ability, with two or three tiers, depending on the number of teams that sign up. The best teams will duel in finals on Sunday.
Supermarket Steps Up
Science education on the Island will benefit from generous new donations and grants.
First, through the online education charity DonorsChoose.org, Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School teacher Jane Paquet will have applied sciences resources and experiences for 70 students. One generous donor contributed $226 in total to the project, which was matched with funds from a DonorsChoose.org grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
On the last Sunday in Advent, Dec. 20, the United Methodist Church of Martha’s Vineyard will present this year’s Christmas Pageant, written by E. St. John Villard, during the 10 a.m. sermon time at Trinity Worship Center, across from the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs.
Santa, With Syrup
Santa will be having breakfast at the Wharf restaurant in Edgartown on Sunday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Kids are welcome for photos ($5) and pleading for their preferred presents. All can enjoy pancakes, eggs, sausage and home fries; admission is $4 per child and $8 per adult. It’s all cash only, and all benefits the Jim Lambert Memorial Scholarship Fund, providing financial assistance for Vineyard students enrolled in post-secondary programs.

Complimentary hot beverages and comfort food, both sweet and savory, will be available Sunday, Dec. 13 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Anchors on Dock street, provided by the Friends of the Edgartown Council on Aging.
