By her own definition, artist Victoria Campbell’s life path has been “a long, crooked road,” with interludes in theatre, filmmaking and performance art. Her restless creative peregrination has taken her through Europe, New York and Los Angeles. In an unforeseen twist, Ms. Campbell’s journey took a detour into the ruined slums of Haiti in the wake of the January quake. On Wednesday, July 14, art and humanitarianism will come together as she screens her acclaimed documentary House of Bones at a fundraiser for the Haitian neighborhood of Christroi.
Adult Learners

The Scarbrough Adult Learner Scholarship Fund is open to citizens of the United States pursuing an undergraduate education in an accredited program. Students must have at least 24 consecutive months as a nonstudent. Preference is for students pursuing a two-year degree or professional certificate and/or attending a technical school.
Pepperoni Disco
Family Dance-o-Ramas are back at the new Flatbread Pizza restaurant at Nectar’s (formerly Outerland).
Wednesday is the first of these weekly all-age discos, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. Flatbread’s family-friendly, wood-fired pizza and dinner menu will be available and the bar is open for mom and dad.
Former Outerland co-owner Mona Rosenthal (Deejay Shizz) will be spinning nonstop dance tunes as disco lighting and bubbles play on the dancefloor.
Street Fair Rocks the Block
There will be more than just dancing in the streets at the Tisbury Street Fair this Thursday night. Pedestrians may rule the way, but fun is the true king as vendors open up their doors. Food, face painting, food, crafts. food, prizes, and some more food. It’s a family free-for-all that celebrates the town’s founding. Most of the proceeds go to Island causes.
The festivities kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Main street in Vineyard Haven.
On Tuesday, July 10, at the Dr. Daniel Fisher House in Edgartown, the public is invited to buy goods and do good at the same time. A one-day shopping event, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., will feature some one-of-a-kind items, including handsome jewelry, blankets, shawls, stationery and more. Exhibitors have generously offered to provide 10 per cent of the proceeds from the sale (and on a repeat day August 10) to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum.
Inspired by summer residents Marte Humbert and Cindy DeLotto, the boutiques are organized by Monica Shelton Reusch.
