Celebrations
J. Kevin Carroll and Linda L. Caroll of Fairfax Station, Va., and Oak Bluffs, formerly of Walpole, announce the engagement of his daughter, Miriam Adams Carroll, to Mattias R. Fenton, son of Heidi B. Fenton of Pittsburgh, Pa., formerly of Hanover, Germany.
Kimberly Watts Peaslee, PhD, has been awarded the $10,000 Donald W. Banner Corporate Intern Scholarship. The Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation awarded only two students in the country with this prestigious recognition. The presentation was made on Dec. 3, 2008, at a luncheon in Washington, D.C.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Watts of Tisbury. Her husband Clifford Peaslee accompanied his wife to the luncheon, held in her honor.
The couple currently resides in Concord, New Hampshire with their daughter, Natalie.

The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands chapter, is looking for nominations for local heroes who live or work on Martha’s Vineyard. Their the heroic act must have been performed between Dec. 15, 2007 and Dec. 25, 2008.
Legal Talk for Students
The Oak Bluffs police department will host a free informational night at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School culinary arts dining room to provide parents and students with legal information regarding students. The information night is being presented on Thursday, Jan. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. Materials reviewed will include junior operating laws, alcohol and underage drinking enforcement grant, the role of the school resource officer and the school lockdown drill.

Hellen and Micael Medeiros of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of a daughter, Giovanna Ramos Medeiros, born on Dec. 13, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Giovanna weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces at birth.
