The popular storybook character Curious George, created by H.A. Rey, will be visiting Island libraries, sponsored by Martha’s Vineyard Library Association’s children’s librarians. Curious George’s schedule is:
Noted Harvard Law professor Alan M. Dershowitz will discuss the Obama administration’s relationship with Israel in a talk titled Obama and Israel: Friends Or Foes? at the Chilmark Public Library on Thursday, August 6 at 5 p.m. Free copies of his latest book The Case For Moral Clarity: Israel, Hamas and Gaza, donated by Mr. Dershowitz, will be given to the first 100 people in attendance.
Big Benefit Book Sale
The stacks are high, the tables laden: today come the crowds to the West Tisbury School gym, on Old County Road, for the Friends of the West Tisbury Library’s annual book sale. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, tomorrow, Sunday (half-price on what’s left) and Monday (when it’s all free).

This weekend Dr. Richard Brown, an associate professor in clinical psychology at Columbia University, will visit the Yoga Barn in West Tisbury, to teach breathing techniques that help allay anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, depression and other maladies.
Dr. Brown’s work draws on the traditions of both ancient and modern mind-body techniques.
On Saturday, August 1, at 10 a.m. at the West Tisbury Free Public Library, the Ortlip family will unveil a portrait of Captain Eugene A. Cernan, Commander of the Apollo 17, which was NASA’s most recent manned lunar mission.
This portrait was painted by Paul D. Ortlip, a participating artist on three NASA recovery missions for Gemini 5, Apollo 12 and Apollo 17.
Also at the library on Saturday, patrons will be able to view the moon rocks on loan from NASA.
