The Martha’s Vineyard Squirts won their first-ever Ryan Mone Memorial Tournament last weekend, skating to four wins in three days. The Squirts played the Boston Bandits in their first game on Friday, and won 4-0 after two goals from Hunter Meader and one each from Logan Araujo and Will Brugiere. Aiden Araujo, Pete Gillis, and Kenny Hatt notched assists, while Aiden Marek earned the shutout in goal.

About 150 students participate in the strings program each year, learning violin, viola, cello and — in some cases — bass under the instruction of Nancy Jephcote and Chelsea Pennebaker.

“We will be less sick as a little population because of this effort, and I wanted to commend the collaboration,” Cynthia Mitchell, West Tisbury selectman and executive at Island Health Clinic, said at the town selectmen’s meeting this week.
