The Gazette library seems to have files on any topic. Some are slim (Finnish prefabs, for example). Others are so fat they have spilled over into second and third envelopes. The Red Stocking file is just such a case. The envelopes are thick with clippings and creased from use. They have surprising weight in the palm of the hand.

Edgartown residents will convene this month for a special town meeting to decide whether to purchase a property adjacent to the Edgartown Free Public Library to make room for expansion of the century-old library.

When Rick Lee and Susan Klein first stepped behind the podium of the Possible Dreams Auction in 2000, they thought it was a one-time deal, a way to support longtime auctioneer Art Buchwald, who was still recovering from a stroke, and to keep the momentum rolling for the annual benefit.

But when Mr. Buchwald returned the next year, he decided he wanted to turn the auction into something of a three-man show - indefinitely.
