Ride for Charity

Cycle Martha’s Vineyard, a charity bike ride sponsored by the Rotary Club of Martha’s Vineyard, takes place on Saturday, Oct. 17. Proceeds benefit Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Martha’s Vineyard and other Rotary charities.

Candy Shweder of Up-Island Pottery will have a sale in her pottery barn in Chilmark on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The traditional end of the summer season will be marked by deep discounts on one-of-a-kinds, seconds and discontinued patterns and colors as well as a wide array of her current styles and glazes.

Candy has been selling her pottery on the Vineyard for 25 years. Known for her floral patterns and cheerful colors, she describes her work as art for the table.

From the Page to the Stage, the Pick of the Crop

Three original plays, penned by Islanders Taffy McCarthy, John Ortman and Peter Palches, will move from the page to the stage for two weekends in a row at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven in an Island Theatre Workshop presentation called Pick of the Crop.

Longtime Island Theatre Workshop artistic director Lee Fierro directs Peter Palches’ Sam Meets Maria, or Still Here, which features Island actors Niki Patton and George Ricci.

Local Art in Boston

Edgartown artist Deborah T. Colter has two large-scale original paintings and a series of four works on paper with the developers of Post 390, an upscale Back Bay comfort food restaurant opening this month near the corner of Stuart and Clarendon streets. Post 390 is the latest project from the owners of Harvest in Cambridge and Boston’s Grill 23.

Art Exhibit

West Tisbury artist Leslie Baker is exhibiting her large landscapes and plein air studies in oil throughout the month of October at the Chilmark Library.

One of the paintings displayed, titled Trying to Remember, recently won a jurors award at the Copley Society’s Summer Members’ Show in Boston.
