Happy Diversions To Help Hospice
It’s summer on Martha’s Vineyard and for most people this means vacation. Sun, fun and, hopefully, relaxation. But while life does need a vacation, there is another aspect of our existence that does not take a vacation. Death.
Antiques Auction
Antiques lovers may preview a midsummer auction from 1 p.m . on Saturday, August 7, at the Grange Hall on State Road in West Tisbury. A wine and cheese reception begins at 5 p.m. as part of the Fine Antique, Marine and Estate Auction with items from estates on Island and all up and down the East Coast.
Some proceeds will go towards M.V. Helping Homeless Animals, a nonprofit, no kill, cage-free shelter. For details, call 508-743-7955 or e-mail [email protected].
Divas Uncorked
The divas have done it again, divining a star-studded lineup — with master of wine Sandy Block, Barbecue University’s Steven Raichlen, and Top Chef contestant Ariane Duarte — for the fourth annual Divas Uncorked Wine and Food Festival on Martha’s Vineyard.
Festival events begin on Thursday, August 12 and continue through Sunday, August 15.
This year, the event will again provide fund-raising support for the Island Grown Initiative..

Morehouse College President
To Speak at Union Chapel
The Rev. Dr. Robert Michael Franklin Jr. is the guest preacher this Sunday at Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs at 10 a.m.
It’s hard to believe that in their 25-plus years of existence local fiddling legends the Flying Elbows have never released an album. That is, until now: on Sunday, Nancy Jephcote will lead the Elbows in a release concert at the Grange Hall for their boisterous new album, Pokedelic.
