Poet Laureate Reads
Don’t pass up the chance to see Poet Laureate Fan Oglivie of West Tisbury read in her native land. Ms. Ogilvie, along with poet Patrick Phillips, will be reading at the West Tisbury Public Library on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m.
Ms. Ogilivie has taught workshops at the Featherstone Center for the Arts and at the Dukes County House of Correction. She has also published several chapbooks, most recently Poems from the Gray Bar Hotel (2010).
The authorship of all of William Shakespeare’s plays has been attributed elsewhere, to Christopher Marlowe, to the Earl of Oxford, to Queen Elizabeth’s favorite lady-in-waiting (well, that one’s a bit of a stretch). Yet even the Bard himself might have preferred his name stricken from Pericles, Prince of Tyre. In fact, modern editors maintain he wrote only the second half — or less — of the drama, the first portion almost certainly penned by second-rate dramatist and tavern buddy George Wilkins.
Library Forum
In a public forum to be held Monday, December 6 at 5:30 pm, the West Tisbury Free Public Library’s building committee will unveil the first detailed drawings of the library addition developed by the Boston-based firm Oudens-Ello Architecture.
Since April the West Tisbury Library has held monthly public forums to outline the library’s history and needs and to gather public comment. The forum on Dec. 6 is the eighth in the series and the second to include the architects.
Lamplighter Gets Oily
The West Tisbury Library welcomes visiting artist Billy Hoff to their gallery with a reception on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 4 p.m.
Although Mr. Hoff’s art is just visiting the library, Mr. Hoff the person is no mere interloper. Although born in New Jersey, he saw the light and moved to West Tisbury where he lives with his wife and two children.
